I’ve learnt smiling, by my eyes.

With the mask on,

The baby stares at me.

Waiting in the lounge,

Beside wet-eyed mommy.

The hospital is energetic,

Like a market place.

But the baby is scared,

Of the bleeping machines,

And the white coats,

and the red blood,

Baby wants to deviate,

From the screams of life.

It smiles an expectant smile,

I smile back with my eyes,

Beyond the concealer of my identity.

I see the baby’s eyes sparkle,

Ah! I’ve learnt smiling

With my eyes.
