What would've driven laundry at the top priority on a woman's list throughout civilized evolution?
So much so that it gives me anxiety when I think of my tightly-shut cupboard and the unorganized pile inside it.
For me being organized is being sane, but piling everyone's cupboards in the family is more intimidating than just a chore.
It reminds me of a story: Once a wife dies and the Man of the house sulks for the late wife for days. He wails like a baby which in turn gives the mourners the gratification that the 'dead' was loved and respected by the 'HUSBAND'
A few weeks later, he comes up with a suggestion for remarriage. The woman's family is shocked because having a stepmother for the kids is unbearable so soon.
Well, the Man of the house had enough reasons for doing so, and the top was, quote-unquote, 'I have no undies left in my cupboard. There should be someone to do the laundry!"
He's happily Re-Married now!
P.S. Sorry to derail your wonderful narrative, but laundry has been a force in shaping the roles.
